Here is another open choice for my foundations class. It is another photo shoot with Grace staring Nick. We went around Belltown Seattle and just had some fun! Hope you like them!!! - Alex W. Tsou
Etsuka Ichikawa
Etsuka Ichikawa was born in Japan and graduated from art school there before moving to Seattle. In 1991 she discovered the art of glass. After gaining experience with the material, Etsuka started drawing on canvas with molten glass using a glass blower. The paper was left with burn marks and bits of glass. The pieces show true movement. Her performance Firebird incorporated her technique with dance and intense classical music.
Etsuka Ichikawa has always had a strong connection with water. Her most recent piece called Nachi contained the element using string representing a waterfall. On the outside was a thin wall and a sound from a japanese well played throughout the room. This instillation was her most recent project.
To me her work is very unique and strange, yet I enjoyed it. I got a feeling that I do not know how to describe. For her piece Firebird, it just did not seem special. I bet if one was there in person, it would have a stronge impression.
Cable Griffith
Cable Griffith is a curator at Cornish College of the arts and has had the love for art the majority of his life. His vision for Cornish is to create a space for the students and for Seattles community. He graduated from Boston University as a painter and moved to Seattle in the year 2000. he then discovered the love for teaching a few years later and went to grad school.
His work varies in mediums and has changed throughout the years. Cable is in love with the process of work, and one can see it in his art. my favorite work he showed us was one of his most recent pieces. It was a 3D painting using plexieglass. While the viewer moved around the instillation, the process was easily seen. The piece was painted in layers and he started in the center.
All in all Cable loves the community and wants to share art with everyone. He loves being a curator because of the inventions, the experimentation, and the creativity. He enjoys making all of it come together. To him a gallery tells a story, and he can be the writer.
My Sources
For my final project for foundations, I want to explore the art of stereocopy. It is usually used with photography but I want to try using paintings. I will have four pieces and make my own head set.
My first source for inspiration is a artist names Gerald Mark. He has shown his stereocopy photography all over the world.
The next source is Neil Nathanson who also uses this technique.
I have been wanting to do a project with stereocopy for a couple of years ever sense I saw the gallery in Portland OR. The Center of 3D Art contained wonderful pieces.
My last source is a website that helps one with the basics of stereocopy art.

Here are my sculpture projects. I was assigned to take an ordinary object and create a force that the object could not do in reality. I chose to do garden gnomes. The first one is melting, the next one is bloated, and the third one is sliced. Hope you like them!
Here is my third substrate for my foundations class. This time we had to research a culture for our inspiration. mine was the Masai people in Africa. Their clothing is so beautiful and the rings the women wear are covered with gorgeous patterns. we also had to have some depth so I cut out three rings representing the Masai’s. it is painted with acrylic paint. Hope you like it. Oh, and thanks to Grace for posing for over half of my photos!
For my third substrate, i have to construct an art piece using one color. My choices are either red or green. The art has to represent culture. I chose red, but can not choose between two cultures. There is the African red rings that the woman wear around their necks which is beautiful. Or create a chinese red dragon with tints of gold. In China the color red represents joy and celebration. Both artforms are amazing and I will have to chose soon. Here are two pictures that I have found that have inspired me. I can not wait to see what I come up with!

Here is my second composition for my Foundations. For this one I painted the next color on the color wheel, yellow, with its complement, which is purple. We also rotated to the right so I was lucky enough to receive Danie’s collage to reference. I also was only allowed to use acrylic paints in this piece. Can’t wait for the next one!
Here is an amazing artist that I have been looking up to for a while.Bruni’s art has inspired me by her use of color. I love her blends and brush strokes. Please check out her website! http://brunijazzart.com/
Here is one out of four pieces of art that I am doing in my foundations class. This one is a monochromatic composition. I was assigned to capture yellow-orange objects and then combine the pictures to make a montage.
Here are my first ten monochromatic photos I have taken. My assignment was to take twenty. My color was yellow-orange. hope you like them!
Here are my photos for the monochromatic assignment. I picked out the pictures that represented in from simple to complicated. I hope you see the monochromatic in them!
Here is another open choice project because I missed last weeks. This is a photo shoot I did for my friend Grace. I will be doing one with a different theme every week. I shot at midnight under the dorms parking lot to give it a dark feel and used deep colors. Jackson and Charlie helped a great deal. This was really fun and can not wait to do it next week! Enjoy!!!
(These photos were created and belong to Alexnder Wolf Tsou)
Here is my own work for the week. This is for my Foundations class. These are pictures of the gum wall in Seattle WA. hope you all enjoy!
